CRITIC'S CORNER: MICHAEL JACKSON'S OFF THE WALL

Off the Wall is the fifth solo album by Michael Jackson and the first on the Columbia label Epic where he will release the next game-changer Thriller.

This album features songwriting contributions from Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Rod Temperton, Tom Bahler, and David Foster and 3 songs from Jackson.

Off the Wall was a significant departure from Jackson's previous work for Motown and was hailed as a major breakthrough for him. Produced by Quincy Jones whom he met in the WIZ and engineered and mixed by Bruce Swedien, this album has sold over 20 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time.

Quincy Jones believed they took a lot of risks in the production of Off the Wall and the final choice of album tracks. But we all know that with the arrival of Off the Wall in the late 1970s, Jackson's abilities as a vocalist were well regarded and the next surprised will only unfold with the next album Thriller!
